Aava-bag

If you don’t count today’s snowstorm, it actually has started to feel like spring and the summer is really just aroud the corner. I already have a couple of lovely summer knits ready for the warmer days and one of them is this Aava-bag. Some time ago I got three balls of Fibranatura Raffia-yarn from my mom and they were just enough for this bag. Raffia-yarn is this made of viscose and it feels like paper yarn. I decided to crochet the bag instead of knitting and it has been a while since I last crocheted! I wanted to make the bag really simple so total beginners can also make it and at the same time it is a nice and easy summer project for a more experienced crocheter.

The bag’s size ended up to be 25 cm x 31 cm, so there’s some room also for other stuff than your phone and wallet. To this sample bag I made the strap quite short, so the bag sits nicely just under the armpit, but of course you can make it longer if you wish. I finished the bag with a lining and a zipper. I like sewing a zipper to my bags, so stuff won’t fly out even if you run around and a pickpocket won’t see directly into your bag 😀 You can make the bag without the zipper too or you can switch it to a magnetic snap if you prefer that. You shouldn’t be afraid of sewing the zipper though, because with this model it is really easy and the instructions are very detailed and simple. Even a beginner will be just fine.
I already ordered paper yarn from Lappajärven värjäämö, so I can make this bag in different colors and I also want to make a mini version of it. When I have time. A couple of other summer projects are still not finished and I have yarns ready for at least two more.
From this link you can buy the pattern for the Aava-bag.
What kind of summer knits are you planning to make?
